Book Early or get Turned Away

Those wishing to go on a day-trip to the Kruger National Park during the Easter weekend risk being turned away at the entrance gates if they don't book early.

Visitor numbers often reach the maximum quota during long weekends and public holidays and this Easter isn't expected to be any different, says park executive director Dr Bandile Mkhize.

"We expect that the nine entrance gates will be very busy between March 25 and 28 and urge guests to book their day visits to avoid the disappointment of being turned away," he said.

The daily quotas vary between 350 and 750 people per gate, depending on the size and strategic importance of the gate. Once the quota is reached, the gate is closed, except to those who hold either gate or accommodation bookings.

The quota system prevents too many people from entering the park, creating congestion and possible environmental damage.

"The gate quotas are there for good reason and we have to maintain them in order to safeguard the natural beauty of the Kruger National Park," said Mkhize.

Bookings for day visits can be made on +27(0)12 428 9111 or by e-mail: reservations@sanparks.org
